Swish, swish. The hot sun
causes sweat to form and drip
down her driven face.
Sharp steel, it smiles as
it's swung. Sadistically
waiting for trouble.
A day of training
will help protect the future.
A feeling of ease.

The personification of the "sharp steel" in this piece makes me wonder; What if objects were aware of themselves? Does "sharp steel" know its own purpose? At least in this piece, "sharp steel" seems to recognize it's purpose as being something of negative nature, so the personification here was very interesting to me since typically we, as humans, are the ones who give objects a purpose. I think that's also one of the beautiful sides of "personification", the way we can give life and even mentalities to objects. Also, this reminded me of a piece called "View with a Grain of Sand", you should check it out!
ReplyDeleteThe personification of the sharp steel smiling is meant to show the fulfillment of it. By being swung in practice it's purpose after creation is being accomplished. Perhaps now that it has fulfilled its purpose it will want for something out of reach.
DeleteThat makes sense, by using the object it is already being given a purpose.
